Advisory Councils
In the late 1990's, NCPIE's Board of Directors conducted a strategic planning and organizational assessment. As a result, greater opportunities exist for broader consumer representation on the Board, and for all members to participate via Advisory Councils. The Councils permit different segments within NCPIE's coalition to discuss with similar organizations medicine communication and patient information public policy issues, and provide input directly to the Board. The Councils also serve as a forum for program planning and marketing.

There are three Advisory Councils, each chaired by a Board member. New chairs were elected at the June 9, 2004 Board of Directors meeting, where each Council met separately in addition to conducting other Board business.

Consumer Advisory Council
Chair: Ellen Lathem
Allergy and Asthma Network Mothers of Asthmatics

Healthcare Professional Advisory Council
Chair: Joseph W. Cranston, Ph.D.
American Medical Association

Business Council
Chair: Dorothy L. Smith, Pharm.D.
Consumer Health Information Corp.

The Councils met in May 1999, May 2001 and December 2003 in conjunction with NCPIE's national conferences. Teleconferences for each Council occur annually.
