Dorothy Smith, Pharm.D., President and CEO, Consumer Health Information Corp. (left), is honored with the Individual Award, presented to her by Linda Golodner, NCPIE Chair; and by the Honorable Paul G. Rogers, NCPIE Chairman Emeritus, for whom the awards program is named.



Representatives of the Food and Drug Administration and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration share an Organization Award for their winning consumer education campaign about the non-medical use of prescription pain relievers, “The Buzz Takes Your Breath Away.”



Regina Moran, Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp. (center) accepts an Organization Award for their “Straight Talk About Responsible Treatment (S.T.A.R.T.) Now” program, promoting appropriate use of stimulant medications used to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.


Josefina Carbonell, HHS Assistant Secretary for Aging (seated), is greeted by Vice Admiral Richard Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., U.S. Surgeon General. Both received Special Recognition Awards for their community outreach on appropriate medicine use, and partnerships with NCPIE.
